Reminder to Citizens about Wild Animals

As the weather begins to warm, the number of calls to the police department and our city’s animal control officers increases as encounters with wild animals such as coyotes become more frequent.  Many areas of our city are still very rural and are natural habitats for such wild animals that we do not want to see roaming in our backyards; however, these animals are in their natural habitat and do not recognize property lines or residential neighborhoods.  When they do wander into unsafe areas it’s time for the professionals to take over.

The Frisco Police Department would like to encourage all citizens to not attempt to run off, shoot at, or trap any wild animal that they encounter.  Instead, call Animal Control at 972.292.5303 or the police department at 972.292.6010 if after hours and have a Frisco animal control officer or police officer respond to handle the situation.

Also, please remember that Frisco city ordinance prohibits discharging a firearm within the city limits.  Please do not shoot any weapons in an attempt to scare off wild animals that you may encounter.

We appreciate your help in this matter and hope that you enjoy spring and the warm weather it brings!

2010 National Night Out

Frisco’s National Night Out Returns to August

FRISCO, TXWith an outpouring of support from citizens and neighborhood groups, the Frisco Police Department is returning to the nationally

supported August date for this year’s National Night Out. On August 3rd of this year, Frisco police officers, firefighters, and city leaders will be

out in force visiting block parties held throughout the city in order to help promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

The Battle of the Badges blood drive will once again lead off the nearly weeklong set of festivities with donors voting on behalf of their favorite

public service group: the police or fire department. The three-day long blood drive will make visits with Carter BloodCare’s mobile units to

Frisco City Hall, Frisco Central Fire Station, and the Frisco Police Department.

On Saturday, July 31, the Frisco Police Department will be hosting its first annual Public Safety Palooza at the police headquarters building.

There will be static displays of police and fire equipment, demonstrations from specialized police units, tours of the police department, food

and fun for kids, and much more! The event will be Frisco’s official kickoff for National Night Out.

It is never too early to start planning for your neighborhood’s National Night Out party. For more information, visit www.FriscoTexas.gov/NNO

New Alarm Ordinance for Frisco to be Enforced Starting March 1, 2010

FRISCO, TX:  Beginning on March 1 the Frisco Police Department will begin to enforce a new city ordinance regulating residential and business alarms. The Frisco City Council passed the new ordinance near the end of 2009, but enforcement of the new regulations and fees have not yet been enforced as city officials wished to allow both residents and businesses to meet compliance prior to active enforcement by the police department.

The new ordinance requires a $35 annual fee for residential and business alarms and incorporates a new fee schedule for excessive false alarms. In 2009, the Frisco Police Department responded to 9,841 alarms of which over 99.6% were false alarms, costing taxpayers over $1.1 million for a police response. In an effort to mitigate these costs and reduce the impact on Frisco taxpayers, the following fines will be applied to excessive false burglar alarms occurring in a 12-month period preceding the last false alarm:

$50 for more than three but fewer than six false burglar alarms;

$75 for more than five but fewer than eight false burglar alarms; and

$100 for more than eight false burglar alarms.

Response by Frisco police officers to more than two false robbery, fire, panic, or emergency medical assistance alarms in a 12-month period preceding the last false alarm will incur a $75 fine for each subsequent false alarm. Additionally, alarm permit holders are required to supply alarm companies with three names and telephone numbers of contacts who are able to respond to a false alarm, and failure by the alarm permit holder or the three contacts to respond within 30 minutes of a false alarm may result in a $50 fine. PMAM Corporation, a third party partner specializing in false alarm management solutions, will manage the Frisco alarm program.

For more information on the new alarm ordinance or to view it in its entirety, please visit www.FriscoTexas.gov/Police or contact the police department¡¦s Records Division at 972.292.6000.

Orphan Angel
Three local families adopted orphan children from Ukraine in December 2008 after participating in an "orphan hosting program". As a result of that experience,  the adoptive fathers  came together to create a new non-profit charity to help bring relief to some of the 143 million orphan children around the world. Our group was very moved by all the kids that were left behind, so we wanted to do more for these special children. We created Orphan Angel International Foundation (OAIF) to do hosting programs, so that some of these children might find a permanent home. We are doing a large gala fundraiser later this year and we would like to invite you to be a part of it. Please make plans to join us as a volunteer or guest. Details are below and there is more information on our web site at www.oaif.org.
